The writing desk in the barn
I used to live in a barn.  Not a stable, mind you, just a stall that was converted into an apartment.  It had everything I need including spectacular sunsets out the west window.  In fact, I could keep a good blog going just posting photos of the sunsets.  My bed was in a loft which provided my inner child with joy and fulfillment.  I had a small garden, a small kitchen, and a small refrigerator.  My barn apartment was the nucleus of simplicity for me.

Now I live in a studio loft.  I moved from the farm to the city and am in graduate school.  When I lived in the barn, I was studying myself.  Now, I'm getting a doctorate in Social Work.  And still studying myself.

This website started out recording what I paid attention to in my little barn nook.  Spirituality, simplicity, and emotional well-being.  I continue to live very simply, but my life is full of intellectual pursuits.  As I embody a different aspect of my essential self, I will continue with this blog to share my thoughts and some of the things I am learning.

My area of interest is in generosity and the way that giving and receiving binds us together in a web of community.  In addition to that, I am learning lots about individual and community well-being.  Topics like empathy, resiliency, social capital, and empowerment are often in my awareness.  I plan to share these new pursuits as well as my old standbys of spirituality and simplicity.  I look forward to the new directions this site might take.
